Short walks around Bowness and Windermere

The current edition of this popular book contains 8 short walks, as listed on the right. Each walk has a start point in either Windermere or Bowness. To enhance your enjoyment of each walk, the book contains not only a map and numbered walk instructions to help you navigate your way around, but also cultural and historical notes.

To give you a flavour of what you will see when you experience the walks for yourself we have put together a collection of images and videos taken when we were either preparing the book, or checking the walks to update the instructions.

Walks checked every year

We check the walks once a year, by walking each walk and noting any alterations that may have occurred since the previous update. This could be something as simple as a signpost that has been altered or removed, or a path that has been rerouted for some reason. Doing this not only ensures that the instructions in the book are up to date, it also gives us a great excuse to get out and experience the beauty of the Windermere area.

The snaps don't do them justice.

The photographs on each walk page are snaps taken as part of our note taking process. They are two dimensional and show a pictorial image. But they do not convey the unique atmosphere that you can only experience when you are actually standing in the same place as the walk checker when they took the snap.

We cannot photograph the freshness of the air, or the smell of the forest, or the feeling of a soft breeze on your face. To get a true sense of the beauty of this place, you really will have to come and do the walks for yourself.

But first, familiarise yourself with our routes by simply clicking the pictures on the right to find out more about each walk. To buy the book, which you can either have delivered to your home address, or, if you have booked accommodation with one of our hotel partners, delivered free of charge to the hotel so that it will be waiting for you on arrival, just click the picture of the book above.

You can even have your book personalised with a short message, so if you have booked accommodation as a gift for a loved one, you can enhance their special break with a personalised book. Just click the image of the book on above to find out more.
