School Knott stands to the east of the town of Windermere and boasts superb views over Windermere Lake and the mountains beyond. Although the summit is only a couple of miles from Bowness Bay the contrast between the two could not be greater. Bowness is a bustling hive of activity, whilst on the fells above, peace and quiet rules the day.

School Knott Tarn, surely one of the regions best kept secrets. As we said earlier - a world away from Bowness. Actually, it is a little under 2 miles.

The path to the summit offers fine views of the Kirkstone Fells.

One of the best bits of this walk is the fact that the view from the summit is hidden until the very last few yards, and provides first time visitors with one of those "Wow" moments that all fell walkers love.

Our video of School Knott, shot on a Sunday afternoon in July 2011, shows the peace and tranquility of this place, compared with the busy resort of Bowness, just a couple of miles away.
