Post Knott, Bowness on Windermere

Post Knott Windermere

Why is it so popular?

Post Knott is situated on the fells above Bowness on Windermere overlooking Windermere (Lake, not town) and is one of the easiest of all the low level Lake District walks. However, when you reach the top, yoiu will find that the summitt is quite unspectacular. It consists of little more than a few rocky outcrops with a seat for you to enjoy the view. It is not even the highest point in the immediate area. Brantfell lies behind Post Knott and enjoys far better views over the fells.

So what made Post Knott so popular, and why does it retain that popularity?

The answer probably lies in the ease of access. A wide path leads to the top, and there are even seats set into the wall to enable you to rest the way. As our video explains, we have the Victorians to thank for making Post Knott so easy to reach
